Everything begins with your mindset. What is guiding yours? Is it God or money? That's a question I really had to ask myself after starting to read the book: Leadership Not By The Book by David Green (with Bill High). (David Green is one of the founders of Hobby Lobby.)
This fascinating book is one of four books we are reading this second term of my doctoral program. Green (2020) basically encourages/advises us to start thinking of God owning our businesses or at least being a majority stockholder. It isn't business as usual with the company as rather than applying standard industry principles, they apply the Word of God and Kingdom principles.
Some things that would look insane from a business perspective, such as closing on Sundays and giving away 50% of their profits, made their company go from borrowing $600 to start the business to literally over 5 billion dollars in revenue. Indeed, they employ approximately 46,000 people and have a thousand stores. That is incredible growth by any standard.
My assignment for the week is to work on a group project where we will create a presentation based on this illuminating tome so I'll be back to flesh this out some more, or at least provide a link to the YouTube video because we have to create an oral presentation as well for next week, but I wanted to mention it now just in case you want to get a jump on reading it. Thus far, I highly recommend it.
