We are our ancestors

We are our ancestors and they are us, and they are smiling.
My bones speak to me of groves of green and fruit and heat and smiles flashing in Beautiful Brown faces.
Yes we were taken from where we flowered, but even here in the barren wastelands of despair, we have thrived.
We are our ancestors and we are their wildest dreams; they beat in our hearts and our souls. The rhythm of Africa was never silenced, even if at times it felt like a whisper.
We are our ancestors.
Journey with me and let the sun shine on everything you do. By moonlight, by sunlight, by starlight, we went to the north to gain freedom, but at the end of the day, we lived in freedom while we were still in chains because you cannot chain our minds and our spirits,
unless we allow it.
We are our ancestors.
And they are us.
And they are smiling.
