Night owls

I tend to go through periods where I sleep a lot and then other periods where I don't sleep much. I've always been this way although the cycles seem to be more marked the older I get. My Mom was a night owl too so I've always wondered if there was a genetic component--and apparently there is!


It’s called … sleep-wake schedule disorder (SWSD). "A variation in the human circadian clock gene CRY1 is associated with a familial form of Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder, providing genetic underpinnings for 'night owls'."


In short, while the early birds were sleeping during caveman days, we were up keeping the fires 🔥 going so they wouldn’t get eaten by saber-toothed tigers.
